The discussions today were around this topic:
“Know thyself before staring your career journey.”
This is important because we are complex and diverse human beings. Understanding ourselves, our desires, needs, interests, and fears can help us better understand the journey we are willing to take.
Understanding the types of work we will do, and that which we do not want to do is also important.
Understanding the types of leadership or management we know best enables us to be successful is also important. Who wants to be in an environment with a micro-manager, when you know a hands off manager is best for us.
I could go on and on with other ideas of how we need to know ourselves to make this journey the most rewarding for us. However, what’s more important is for you to work on this from your own perspective. Think about the people, industries, roles, environments, beliefs, cultures, leadership, professional development goals/needs, and so much more that could be important to you.
Know theyself based on what is important to you, not some dude who does not live with you and your whole self.
BTW – don’t discount the opportunity of talking with people who do know you. They may look at you differently than you would do for yourself. They may peel back a few layers that you would not normally allow yourself to do.
Know thyself and then start your career journey with this knowledge.
Best wishes / Teddy
