This week’s Topic: Discrimination comes in many different styles. Let’s discuss it.
Gender, Name, Age, Overqualified, Race,
This is real – “I think I have experienced discrimination.” It happens, when you are not quite sure you were discriminated against, but it feels as if you were.
Age – A sly interviewer will ask about our children, schools, college, etc to uncover your age.
Age – maybe uncover the culture of the company, how diverse is the population.
Gender – maybe do research on others in the company/department.
We’re all Human – can’t we all agree to leave it at that.
This week’s Interview question: How long will you stay with us?
GJ – I’ll continue to work for you until we complete all of the tasks you ask me to do.
RK – Asked them back, “why are you asking me this question?” Which led to a different and more productive conversation.
VS – 2nd interview – Got a lecture from the employer that you are not going to leave.
SR – follow GJ’s style. She can speak to her longevity of prior jobs.
What are you doing this week to move your self forward in your career journey?
GJ – 6 conversations that are ongoing. Look to get even more conversations going on to get a bigger race.
RK – some networking, an all day online professional development program.
VS – Zoom conversations with WSSU professor, reading more, more conversations.
MJ – Engagement with LinkedIn Connection, make some new connections, educational webinars.
SR – Conversations with people from my past, Coursera Courses focused on skills.
This week’s challenge – Find ways to maximize your energy & positive attitude. Small steps Getting focused on the right stuff.Persistence.
Next week topics:
