When should I change my employment status

I get asked this question all the time by our unemployed friends, family & connections.

Today we get to make this employment status statement in lots of places
Resumés
LinkedIn
Facebook
Monster.com
Careerbuilder.com
Ladders.com
Niché recruiting sites
business cards
And during conversations

I also hear people say that recruiters and hiring managers would rather hire someone who is still employed, rather than hire someone who is unemployed.

I personally am a fan of being black & white and stating the facts.
