The many Cs of Social Media

Whether you are a Job Seeker, career professional, community leader, politician, fun guy or gal, brand manager, marketing professional or a Social Media freak (like me), you need to never forget the 4 Cs of Social Media

The 4 Cs apply to each and every stream of Social Media.

Contribute – Create you own content and share it where relevant and possibly interesting to others.

Collaborate – Read other contributors content and again, where relevant to you, your passion, your skills or your expertise, join the discussion and add useful points of view.

Connect – In order to actively participate in life as well as Social Media, you have to connect. Accept interesting and/or relevant connections. Send out relevant and transparent connection requests. And most of all, introduce other people to each other (POWERFUL!)

Cram – Social Media streams are filled with lots of great information. Don’t misunderstand me, it’s also full of CRAP. What’s important is to search for and find the good stuff and learn from it.

I recently read an article by Andrew Jenkins on the Business 2 Community blog about the 6 Cs of Social Media. Thru the research done by Jeremiah Owyang and Brian Solis, both from the Altimeter Group, and Michael Brito of Edelman, as well as others, they built this very important list of Cs for Social media: Commitment, Culture, Content, Channels, Consistency, Conversation

In conclusion I strongly suggest that you use the 4 Cs of  Social Media – Contribute, Collaborate, Connect & Cram while never forgetting the 6 Cs of  Commitment, Culture, Content, Channels, Consistency, Conversation.
